The History of the AKs
It all started the summer of 1998 when three aspiring musicians had dreams of creating a band of their own to rock the
mullet. Before then there had been recordings of such songs as Jordan In a Box, Jordans Farm, Native Indian Music, and A
train. These incredible songs consisted of Alexi singing and banging on a table while Justin strummed away on his guitar.
Immediately they were stuck by there own talent and new that this was the beginning of something big. In the summer of 98
as Justin continued to hone his skills at guitar another member was added to the duo. An aspiring young bassist Jordan Mathews.
Alexi then redoubled his efforts and decided to up his efforts from a table to a real drum set. Things were getting started.
Unfortunately Alexi being the lazy shit that he is never got around to doing anything at all and his the bands hopes
and dreams of a drummer were crushed. Hearing of the idea of a band, a friend Noah Foster immediately offered his services
as a guitarist. The three band members considered this proposition and decided that adding another guitar would improve the
sound and welcomed him in. The band was still left with the problem of a drummer. Alexi had by this time become devoted
to lyrics and singing and refused to learn to play the drums. For a while the bands struggled without a drummer and found
out that they sucked. With nowhere to turn the band was in despair, when a proposition was brought to them. A
friend of the band, David Miller proposed to learn to play the drums for them. The only problem was that he had no idea how
to play drums and didnt own any. This issue was quickly rectified when he purchased a drum set and began drumming lessons.
Finally the band was ready to begin and they had even thought of a name: Jor-X, or the Jordanic Experience. Problems soon
arose however when the band realized that there drummer, David had no beat, and general had no talent, in short he sucked
a nut. During this time of strife in the band's history the had continued to play tunes from there early career
such as Jordans Farm. They also added such covers as Batman, and Wish you were here. Jor-X had their first big show when
the played at the GDS variety show, playing all their usual tunes. It was generally dismissed by all, but a few people mentioned
that they had enjoyed the performance. Undeterred, the band continued on realizing that they needed a new drummer
and a face lift. The band fired their old drummer, hiring Ilmari Soininen and bringing on the services of Geoffrey Bund on
vocals. At this point Jor-X realized that with the new members they needed a new name and a new image. No more jumping from
one type of music to the other. Jor-X would play punk. The band soon decided that they would become the AKs, which seemed
a more fitting name. The name has hidden meaning and is shrouded in mystery. This was the school year of 2000 and much work
had to be done. The AKs began playing such covers as Operation Ivy's Knowledge, one that can still be heard today.
Soon however friction rose in the band and Geoffrey Bund moved on to explore new horizons. With the departure of Geoff, Noah
took over his role as singer and abandoned his guitar. Today you can still see the AKs in this form and they're still going
strong. Soon the AKs began writing originals and practice for the numerous battles that they had been requested for. GDS,
WIS, Landon, NCS, Sidwell, all begged to get a piece of the AKs. Things had finally started going right. In the
summer of 2001, the AKs began work on their first CD: Let's Break Shit. With the help of the Farrell family and Punk Rock
Chick Records, The AKs started down the road of the future. That summer they received numerous solicitations from record
labels asking to hear their music. We will continue our progression, perfecting our skills and destroying the chains of society.
Even as we speak the army of noisy punk rockers is growing. Such bands as the Overpriviledged, the Bowlcuts, Sojourners
Truth, the Max Levine Ensemble, and the Nothing Squad are joining forces with the AKs to bring DC to its knees with mindless
destruction and hardcore punk rock, and we want YOU to join the war.
